Several residents spoke. Topics included: (a) questions concerning the analysis and documentation of the pool's condition and water loss prior to the decision to demolish and eliminate of the pool; and (b) the status of efforts to crowd-fund or establish a non-profit entity to generate contributions for a new pool.

The Jersey Village City Council met on Monday, April 14 to take action on several items aimed at improving city infrastructure, enhancing public safety, and supporting long-term planning efforts.

Street and Sidewalk Improvements Move Forward

Council approved a contract with SAS Concrete Construction for the City’s Street and Sidewalk Panel Replacement Program. The initial scope includes replacing 3,000 square feet of pavement at Jersey Drive and Meadow Lane and 1,100 square feet at Hawaii Lane and Tenbury. The contract, totaling $54,900, also includes unit pricing for future repairs throughout the city, including ADA ramp improvements and sidewalk work. These projects are funded as part of the City’s FY 2025 Capital Improvements budget, which allocates $250,000 for street panel replacements and $100,000 for sidewalk upgrades.

Council Advances Public Safety with New Crime Prevention Technology

The City Council authorized the purchase of advanced law enforcement equipment through a $130,000 grant from the Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority (MVPCA). The approved items include:

• StarChase GPS tracking systems for six patrol vehicles

• Additional drones to enable 24/7 aerial response

• CellHawk investigative software for analyzing cell phone data

These tools will enhance the Police Department’s capabilities in preventing and investigating vehicle-related crimes. The City’s required 20% match of $20,917 will be reimbursed upon completion of the purchase and verification by the grantor.

Zoning Change Request Receives Commission Denial

Council received a preliminary report from the Planning and Zoning Commission regarding a zoning change request for 17000 Northwest Freeway, submitted by Marrakech Realties. The applicant requested to rezone the property from District F to District G. After review, the Commission recommended denying the request. Council accepted the report and scheduled a joint public hearing for May 14, 2025.

Vision Zero Goal Adopted Through SS4A Resolution

As part of the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) planning initiative, the Council adopted a resolution setting a goal of zero roadway fatalities and serious injuries by the year 2035. This resolution is the first step toward finalizing a citywide transportation safety plan. Once the plan is adopted, the City will become eligible to apply for implementation grants through the U.S. Department of Transportation. This initiative aligns with the City's broader efforts to improve mobility, safety, and accessibility throughout the community.
